Profile:
Founded in 1884, Flushing Hospital Medical Center (FHMC) is Queens’ first hospital. It is located in one of the most ethnically diverse and prosperous populations in all of the U.S.
FHMC operates a full service, recently expanded Emergency Department that consists of separate adult and pediatric units. The facility is also a 911 receiving hospital and a state designated stroke center.
FHMC’s Department of Psychiatry offers a wide array of mental health and addiction services to the community. The department consists of an 18-bed Acute Care Inpatient Unit, a 30-bed Chemical Dependency Unit, an Outpatient Mental Health clinic, and the “Reflections” Chemical Dependency clinic.
FHMC’s on-site Ambulatory Care Center has over 40 general and specialty clinics, including Internal and Pediatric Medicine, Ophthalmology, Podiatry, OB/GYN, Dentistry, and Mental Health, to name a few.
FHMC is home to Queens’ only inpatient Geriatric Medical Unit. This 20-bed unit serves the many needs of the older adult community by providing patients with highly qualified geriatric specialists.
The Wound Care Center at FHMC is a seven-bed outpatient center designed to treat and heal patients in need of wound care. The center provides the most advanced treatment for chronic or non-healing wounds and helps patients heal quicker, avoid amputation, and improve their overall quality of life.
FHMC’s Department of OB/GYN has eight ultra-modern and spacious Labor Delivery & Recovery suites. In addition to its OB/GYN services, the department also offers gynecological oncology services to treat all gynecologic malignancies, including laparoscopic surgery.
FHMC’s expanded Cardiology Department provides enhanced inpatient and outpatient testing. With the addition of state-of the art equipment and staff, the Cardiology Department now provides a wider variety of services and advanced testing with better diagnosis and quicker results for both the inpatient and outpatient services.
The Radiology Department offers a variety of imaging services in its newly renovated and comfortable facilities including mammography, nuclear medicine, ultrasound, high speed CT scanning, vascular laboratory, diagnostic X-ray, and interventional radiology. The department also boasts a MRI Suite, which features an open bore MRI system.
With a comprehensive range of services and broad range of subspecialties, FHMC’s Department of Pediatrics provides expert care for acute and chronic illnesses in infants, children, and young adults. The department’s specialty areas and services include a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), as well as a newborn nursery, an infant apnea monitoring program for infants at risk for sudden infant death, and an Early Intervention Program for infants with suspected or confirmed developmental delays.
