Department of Volunteer Services
Volunteers are at the heart of the medical center, enhancing the atmosphere of care and concern for patients and their families. FHMC volunteers range in age from 16 to retired seniors. Junior Volunteers are required to make a minimum time commitment of 125 total hours and Adults (age 18+) a total of 200 hours, each category donating at least 4 to 8 hours per week for at least three months. Many volunteers have been with FHMC for over 20 years and are considered as valued members of our staff. Volunteers are assigned to various roles throughout the hospital. Their smiles and helpful hands are visible when comforting patients, assisting medical and administrative staff with various tasks, helping with gift shop sales, and attending to the pastoral needs of our multicultural community. FHMC Volunteer applicants come to us for a wide range of reasons, i.e., school requirements, educational advancement, spiritual or community mindedness, career change or social networking and the Hospital provides an opportunity to fulfill these needs. In return, the Hospital reaps the rewards of their dedicated service. In 2009, 227 Volunteers generously donated 26,820 hours to the Hospital.
To become a volunteer, please call 670-5439 for information.
