Providing education to help people prevent future illness as well as to better understand and cope with existing health problems is a high priority for us. As a service to the community, FHMC sponsors a variety of support and educational groups. Regularly scheduled groups include:

  • Alzheimer's Caretakers Support Group, meets the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month. For information, call 670-5380.
  • Breathing Easy, in cooperation with the American Lung Association of Queens, for people with breathing problems and their families, meets at 3:00 p.m. on the 2nd Thursday of each month except July and August. Call 670-5640.
  • Diabetes Club, for adults with diabetes and their families, meets the 3rd Wednesday of each month except July and August. Call 670-5640.
  • Infant Care and Nutrition, and Breast Feeding classes given three times per month. English and Spanish classes available. Call 670-5905.
  • Ostomy Education & Support group, in cooperation with the American Cancer Society, for patients and families, meets at 1:00 p.m. the first Monday of each month. Call 670-5640.

In addition, the following groups meet when there is a need:

  • Bereavement Support Group. Call 670-3160.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation for the Community. Call 670-5640.
  • "Tot Rescue" CPR. Call 670-5905.

Free Screening and Informational Programs

Glaucoma Screening: Every Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the
lobby.

Medicare Information: Advice and assistance with Medicare claims, every Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Call 670-4546.
