The Department
of Patient Care Services (Nursing) is a major component of
the medical center. FHMC nurses deliver the highest quality
patient care in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary health
care team. They care for patients in various areas of medical
specialty including geriatrics, medical/surgical, critical
care, perioperative, maternal child health, pediatrics, oncology,
hemodialysis chemical dependency and psychiatry.
The vice
president and director of nursing for patient care services
are responsible for the quality of nursing services across
the continuum of care.
The assistant
directors of nursing, who report to the director of nursing,
are responsible for selected services within the department.
Nurse
managers have 24-hour accountability for their patient care
units.
The assistant
director of nursing education and staff development coordinates
all activities relating to the professional development of
nursing staff members. This includes the orientation of new
employees as well as ongoing educational activities offered
to both the staff and the community.
The department
also employs head nurses and assistant head nurses, registered
professional nurses (RNs) licensed practical nurses (LPNs),
technicians, nursing attendants, and ward clerks, all of whom
participate in the provision of quality care.
The administrative
supervisors on the evening and night shifts are responsible
for various administrative functions within the medical center.
