You probably know that concerns are easily sorted out at Flushing during business hours. From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, The Flushing Hospital Medical Center (like any typical business) is fully staffed by senior professionals from executive administrators to supervisors in all aspects of the delivery of health care.

Unlike ordinary businesses, however, patient care at Flushing continues 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. And, even on holidays or in the wee hours of the morning, there are professional staff on duty at Flushing in offices that are never closed--the Nursing Administration Office and the Administrator on Duty.

During off hours the AOD and Nursing Supervisor are appointed the senior voice for the entire institution. There's always someone watching the ship, whether it be during a major emergency or when a family needs immediate answers that perhaps the unit nursing and support staff cannot provide.

After hours, the Nursing Supervisor and Administrator on Duty also handles urgent questions from the media, the police, and the many city agencies that deal with hospitals. He or she will be present during a medical crisis to coordinate personnel, such as from nursing, anesthesia, transportation or radiology--or just to listen to concerns of a patient or their family, if necessary. The AOD or Nursing Supervisor can answer questions about anatomical gift donation or autopsy - or get the right person to answer the question for you.

During regular hours, the Nursing Supervisor or Administrator on Duty is at work serving as a liaison or referral service for all questions that need to be resolved. For instance, they often help the patient or family whose problem isn't neatly solved by one department.

The Nursing Supervisor and Administrator on Duty are sort of like a traffic cop, and like traffic cops who magically appear and untangle the intersection's snarl, the Nursing Supervisor or AOD can be a patient's best friend.

The Nursing Supervisor or Administrator on Duty can be reached at (phone number). The hours? Simply put, all the time.
