Mr. Doss has been with Jamaica
Hospital Medical Center since 1970. He spent some of the
intervening years as Controller of the Jamaica Hospital
Nursing Home, returning to the Hospital in 1978. He received
a B.S. in Accounting from Ein Shams University, Cairo, Egypt
in 1965, and an MBA from Fordham University in 1974. Prior
to his service at JHMC, he was employed as a Cost Accountant
in private industry.
Under his guidance, the Nursing
Home developed strong accounting systems, and Mr. Doss was
a major contributor to the development of accounting standards
within the nursing home industry in New York State.
With his appointment to the
Hospital’s CFO position, Mr. Doss focused his attention
on cash management and budgetary discipline. Through his
tireless efforts Jamaica Hospital Medical Center achieved
a remarkable financial turnaround.
Success at Jamaica Hospital
enabled Mr. Doss and Senior Management, to lead the efforts
to turn around Flushing Hospital Medical Center. Flushing
emerged from bankruptcy within one year. Again in the forefront
of another turnaround, this same Senior Management team,
utilizing previous successes, is managing The Brookdale
University Hospital & Medical Center and assisting its
return to financial stability.
Mr. Doss has served on various
committees and task forces on financial management and hospital
reimbursement issues at the following:
- Healthcare Association of
New York State
- The Greater New York Hospital Association
- The Health Financial Management Association
In addition, he has been active
in policy development for the Coalition of Financially Distressed
Hospitals.
