Did you know that Flushing Hospital Medical
Center provides all of our non-English speaking patients and
their families the latest technology in multi-lingual communication?
Realizing the diverse areas that Flushing Hospital
serves, we have taken the initiative to use an easy and effective
way of interacting with patients. By partnering with CyraCom
International to bring DiaLingual service to the hospitals,
Flushing Hospital employees have the ability to access qualified
interpreters with a strong knowledge of medical terminology
twenty four hours a day, seven days a week. Interpreters are
available in over 150 languages and can be reached instantly
from a stationary touch-tone or wireless telephone.
One key feature of this service is the ease
in which the translation takes place, thanks to the dual-handset
CyraPhone module that is provided. This specially designed
telephone enables both caregiver and receiver to speak face
to face as the translation takes place.
The ability to provide the service in this manner
eliminates the awkwardness and confusion that can take place
when a telephone receiver is passed back and forth or when
both parties are forced to huddle around a speakerphone. The
addition of this service will also help ease the burden of
relying on hospital employees and volunteers to act as translators.
Currently, CyroPhone translation modules can
be found in in the Emergency Department, most nursing units,
and many other areas of patient care.
