| OBSTETRICS, GYNECOLOGY AND
WOMEN'S HEALTH
The Department of Obstetrics
and Gynecology has a full program to provide total health
care for women.
There are almost 2,500 deliveries
at FHMC annually. Our department offers tours of the
maternity floors for expectant parents, prepared childbirth
classes during the pregnancy, sibling classes and classes
for women who have had a previous Cesarean Section and
would like to have a vaginal delivery.
Our Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine has the most
up-to-date equipment for the evaluation of mother and
fetus. This is especially important in the management
of high risk pregnancies, which comprise 25% of our
deliveries. This Division is staffed by a full time
Board Certified Perinatologist and highly trained nurses.
Under the direction of the Perinatologist, the Division
provides genetic counseling, amniocentesis, diabetic
counseling, as well as maternal-fetal evaluation during
the course of pregnancy.
Our Gynecologic Services use the latest
techniques and equipment, such as ultrasonography, color
Doppler, laser and laparoscopic surgery, in the diagnoses
and treatment of female disorders. Other problems managed
by our Gynecologic Service include sexually transmitted
diseases, abnormal Pap smears, benign tumors and female
urinary disorders including urinary incontinence.
The Division of Gynecologic Oncology
offers comprehensive and multi-disciplinary care to
patients with gynecologic malignancies. The services
offered include surgery, chemotherapy and radiation
therapy. The Division belongs to the New York Gynecologic
Oncology Group and thereby is able to use the most up-to-date
treatment and clinical trials available. The very experienced
staff together with the Board Certified Director and
Assistant Director is uniquely attentive to the special
needs and concerns of their patients.
Our Division of Reproductive
Endocrinology addresses the problems of infertility
as well as menstrual disorders, endometriosis, PMS,
menopause, and osteoporosis.
