The FHMC Department of Emergency Medicine provides around-the-clock expert care for all adult and pediatric, medical, surgical and OB/GYN emergencies. There is a separate Cardiac Emergency Unit for quick response to suspected heart attacks. A self-contained Pediatric Emergency Division is staffed 24-hours a day with board certified pediatricians. There is a Fast Track area for rapid treatment of less severe non-life threatening emergencies.

Pediatric Emergency Department

The department operates a 24-hour ambulance service and participates in the New York City Emergency Medical Service 911 System.

In addition, the Department of Emergency Medicine in cooperation with the Department of Nursing, offers courses in emergency care, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation, advanced cardiac life support and pediatric advanced life support. For information on these courses, call the Nursing Education Office at 670-5640.
