The comprehensive assessment and treatment
of alcohol and chemical dependency is provided on the Inpatient
Chemical Dependency Unit and in the Reflections
Outpatient Program. Both programs are licensed by the
New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services
(OASAS) and are staffed by a multidisciplinary team of professionals
skilled in the treatment of addiction.
The Chemical Dependency Unit is a
Medically Managed Detoxification Unit that offers safe withdrawal
from alcohol and other drugs. Treatment is provided by a dedicated
and caring staff including: physicians, physicians' assistants,
specially trained nurses, credentialed alcoholism and substance
abuse counselors, creative arts therapists, social workers
and psychiatric consultants. The focus is on stabilizing the
individual physically and emotionally so they can start the
process of recovery. Educational groups help patients learn
about addiction and creative arts groups help patients understand
and express their emotions. Self-Help Groups such as AA and
NA also have meetings on the unit to familiarize patients
with these sources of support. Patients are admitted 24 hours
a day, seven days a week. The length of stay is usually between
3 and 7 days. Discharge plans are based on the individual
needs of the patient. For more information or to schedule
an appointment, call (718) 670-5540 or (718) 670-5693.
The Reflections Outpatient Program
is a Chemical Dependency Outpatient Service that uses a holistic
model in treating addiction and the impact it has on patients'
lives, as well as the lives of their families and loved ones.
We employ an abstinence-based approach that encourages participation
in 12-Step programs and other sources of sober support. Groups
concentrate on such areas as relapse prevention, stress management,
motivation and fun in recovery. There are men's and women's
groups, and a group for significant others of patients. Individual
and family counseling are also provided. Acupuncture, meditation
or relaxation exercises, and the biofeedback are a major component
of treatment. These approaches help our patients to settle
themselves and improve coping so they can reflect and focus
on their goals. A psychiatrist on our staff can evaluate patients
and and provide medication management. Patients may be self-referred,
referred by their families, or mandated into treatment by
their employers or the criminal justice system. We understand
that there are many roads into treatment, try to develop motivation
for recovery and treat all of our patients with dignity and
respect. The program is open for day and evening sessions
and accepts many private insurance policies as well as Medicaid
and Medicare. There is also a sliding scale for self-pay patients.
Those requesting services are first screened over the telephone
and an evaluation is scheduled as soon as possible. For more
information or to schedule an evaluation call (718) 670-5078.
